Crafting Your Dream Kitchen

Building a new home is an exciting journey filled with endless possibilities, and one of the most important spaces to consider is the heart of the home—the kitchen. Selecting the right cabinetry, countertops, appliances, and hardware is crucial in creating a functional and aesthetically pleasing kitchen that suits your lifestyle. Crafting your dream kitchen is no small task. In this guide, I’ll walk you through the key decisions you’ll need to make to transform your kitchen into a space that reflects your style and meets your needs.

-Cabinetry-

Consider the materials, such as solid wood, MDF (Medium-Density Fiberboard), or plywood, and explore finishes like painted, stained, or natural wood.

Additionally, consider features such as soft-close hinges and drawers, pull-out shelves, and built-in organizers to enhance functionality.

For our kitchen we chose the have the perimeter cabinets be Accessible Beige and the island to be a beautiful dark-stained wood tone. We also wanted to make sure our cabinets went all the way to the ceiling and chose a modified shaker-style cabinet door.

-Countertops-

Selecting the right countertop material is a crucial decision, as it not only contributes to the aesthetics but also determines the durability and maintenance requirements of your kitchen. Common choices include granite, quartz, marble, and butcher block.

For our countertops, we went with a quartzite called Taj Mahal. It was out of our budget but honestly it was the one I was so in love with and couldn’t see our kitchen without it.

-Appliances-

Investing in high-quality appliances is essential for a well-functioning kitchen. Start by selecting the core appliances, such as a refrigerator, oven, and dishwasher. Consider energy-efficient options to reduce your environmental footprint and lower utility bills.

Stainless steel appliances remain a popular choice for their sleek and modern appearance. However, integrated appliances that blend seamlessly with cabinetry are gaining popularity, creating a cohesive and streamlined look. Smart appliances with connectivity features add convenience to your daily life, allowing you to control and monitor your kitchen even when you’re away.

I knew from the start that we wanted to go with panel-ready appliances for our fridge and dishwasher. I could not be more pleased with our decision from a looks and functionality perspective.

-Hardware-

Hardware may seem like a small detail, but it can significantly impact the overall aesthetic of your kitchen. Choose cabinet handles, knobs, and faucets that complement the style of your cabinetry and tie together the design elements. Brushed nickel, brass, and black are popular finishes that can enhance the visual appeal of your kitchen.

Consider the functionality of the hardware, opting for ergonomic designs that are comfortable to use. Touchless faucets and soft-closing cabinet hardware are examples of features that can add a touch of luxury and convenience to your kitchen.

Our cabinet hardware was one choice I made that significantly affected the overall look of our kitchen – for the better. I chose to go with a honey bronze, reeded pull from Top Knobs for our cabinets and to say I’m pleased with the finished look of the space is an understatement. I couldn’t love it more.
