In case you missed it, we’re MOVING! Not only are we moving, we’re building a house. Because this wasn’t actually in our “plan”, I wanted to share how this new build fell into place.
Let’s rewind about 5-6 years ago when my husband and I drove past a piece of land. He made a comment about how he would love to purchase that someday to hunt on. I commented back, “It would be perfect to build a house on”. That was about as far as the conversation went. We have driven past the property several times since, and it has basically been the same conversation every time.
Fast forward to summer 2022. I was in a bit of a funk and told my husband that I felt like, “I needed a change in my life”. He agreed that he had been feeling that same tug. The problem was that we didn’t know what kind of change we needed. One night after the kids went to bed we made a long list of things we could change in our current life. Some of them were big, some of them were small. Building a house was on the list, but honestly it wasn’t very high on the list. We agreed to pray over the whole list in hopes that God would be the one to tell us which change was coming next.
Now, the sequence of the events that followed were nothing but a God wink.
One September evening we were outside, and my husband very casually mentioned to a friend that there is a chunk of land outside of town that he wants, but it isn’t for sale. The next day in the carpool line browsing Zillow (like I often do), the piece of land (7.5 acres) directly across the road from our dream property was listed only hours before. This was previously owned by the same person that our dreamland was. I immediately thought that this was a sign and could help us get our foot in the door for the much larger section my husband wanted. What did I do next? You guessed right, I called my husband.
He did some research to find that the original large chunk we wanted was sold a few years back for over $2 million. That’s way out of our budget, so he was a little bummed. We agreed that the section on the market currently would be our second choice if we ever built.
We decided to sit on it for a couple of days to see if it was really a sign from God, or if we were jumping into something that we weren’t sure was right. At church a few days later, the message was about how God will place what you need in your lap when the time is right. It might not always make sense, but He will always provide. We drove home that morning knowing what the next step was.
Right away on Monday, we put in an offer. They declined our offer without a counter or anything. We thought that we had misread all the signs, and we were so confused and disappointed. We put in one more best and final offer with very little hope that it would be accepted. But we were wrong- it was!
God heard our prayers and knew the exact change we needed in our lives. It took some patience for us to really clear the fog and see what it was, but He knew all along. So, our new build journey begins! Follow along, because we cannot wait to document the entire process here on the blog.
